Dear Friends and Community Members,
It has been an honor to serve as President of the Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego County (FILAMEDA) since January of 2005.
Reflecting upon the past three plus years, the organization and our community has much to celebrate, including FILAMEDA's leadership in the historic passage of Assembly Bill 420 (Filipino CSET) and of the Filipino Language Movement (FiLM); the hosting of three Filipino American K-16 Education Summits; the global efforts of Philippines 2007: Transcending Educational Borders; the launch of our higher education Scholar & Author Series; and the expanding of our annual scholarships to provide financial assistance to both high school and college students.
Please know that FILAMEDA recognizes how vital the support of friends and community members and organizations, Filipino and non-Filipino alike, has been to our success.
At this time, I am announcing that I will be moving to Washington, D.C. in order to begin a Ph.D. program in Education Leadership at the University of Maryland this fall. I am excited about the opportunities to not only further my academic and professional growth, but to also lead in the advocacy efforts to expand Filipino Language and Culture classes on the east coast on behalf of the Filipino American Educators Association of California (FAEAC) and FILAMEDA!
In closing, I respectfully ask that you continue to support FILAMEDA. In my absence, you can contact Vice President, Genevieve Esmende, at genevieveesmende@filameda.org.
I look forward to the next level of our work ahead!
Sincerely,
Eleonor G. Castillo, MPA
President
