Dear FILAMEDAns,
We have an exciting spring ahead!
As previously announced, we are hosting our 3rd Annual Filipino American K-16 Education Summit: Ensuring Your Student's Success - A Call to Action at Hedenkamp Elementary School on Saturday, April 19th. FILAMEDA is partnering with the Chula Vista Elementary School District for the event. Please pre-register by Monday, April 14th.
We are proud this year to be able to extend our annual scholarship support to include college and university students. Our 2008 High School and College Scholarships application is now available. The deadline for submission is May 16th.
In addition, FILAMEDA is launching its inaugural Scholar and Author Series! This innovative program expands the scope of our organization's work in higher education. We are proud to be welcoming Theodore S. Gonzalves, Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in honor of the recent release of his book, Stage Presence.
Lastly, our leadership of the Filipino Language Movement (FiLM) continues. On behalf of FILAMEDA and the Filipino American Educators Association of California (FAEAC), I attended the 1st Annual Filipino as a Global Language Conference, March 17th - 19th, and made a presentation on AB 420 and the FiLM. Our statewide advocacy work to preserve the teaching of Filipino Language and Culture courses will soon expand into collaborative national and global efforts!
We look forward to your participation in our upcoming events and appreciate your continued support.
Sincerely, Eleonor G. Castillo, MPA President
