About Us
The History of FILAMEDA
FILAMEDA was formally organized by a group of teachers and after school
personnel in December of 1974. The charter members were Erlinda H. Astudillo,
Felicid C. Musar, Rebecca A. Nowicki, Gloria R. Pablo, and Anita E. Pascua.
Mrs. Pascua was elected the first President.
The initial focus of the association was on the professional growth of FILIPINO
teachers and on their hiring. As the years progressed, the group focused on the promotion
of Philippine history and culture and the implementation of multicultural and bilingual
classrooms.
Goals and Objectives of FILAMEDA
- To provide the Filipino-American teachers a means for interchange of ideas and constructive group action.
- To identify and find solutions to problems related to the teaching profession.
- To initiate and formulate programs of activities which shall stimulate the interest of the members, the corporation, and the community at large; including those which would promote professional growth and job advancement opportunities.
- To support education programs on the local level, especially those on bilingual/multicultural education.
- To promote through utilization of all appropriate resources, a morally upright citizenry of our youth as the the foundation of a strong United States of America.
- To identify worthy and needy individuals and to distribute scholarship funds to them.
